Sleepover Theatre Camp - SOLD OUT!

Once again, it's time to sign up for February's Sleepover Theatre Camp! Kids from 8 to 14 will love this unique opportunity to bring stories to life on stage, create scenery and costumes, and perform for an audience. We'll rehearse and create on Friday night, Feb. 4, beginning at 6:30. We'll work together until about 10 pm, then have pizza and watch a movie on the big screen. We'll camp out on the stage with our sleeping bags and air mattresses, then enjoy a big breakfast early on Saturday morning. We'll rehearse a bit more, and then present a show for parents and friends at 11:30. This event was very popular last year, so don't wait until the last minute to sign up. Tuition is $40 per person, and includes pizza and breakfast. Sign up below, or by calling 572-8339. Sleepover Theatre Camp will be directed by Sandy Slayton.

Crowns Auditions

Halifax County Little Theatre is holding auditions for their spring musical, Crowns, on Monday and Tuesday, January 24 and 25, at 7 pm at The Prizery. The musical centers on the hats African-American women wear to church and the stories these hats reveal about their lives and their faith.

The musical, written by Regina Taylor, is adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry. Little Theatre is pleased that Chris Jones will be the stage director for the show, with Chris Oliver as musical director.

‘Crowns’ is told through a series of vignettes, which reveal stories about the lives of many different women and the hats – or crowns – that they wear to church. The musical calls for a cast of 6 African-American women and 1 African-American male. The women range in age from 1 older teenager to women in their 60’s, and all cast members play a variety of roles.

Those wishing to audition should be prepared to sing a song of their choice and will be reading from the script. Many of the songs in the musical are older gospel songs that audiences will be familiar with.

Little Theatre also wants to encourage anyone interested in helping with the production to come to auditions also and leave some contact information and meet the directors. There are always many backstage positions that need filling with any show, and we are always looking for new people to join in.

Auditions for Almost, Maine on Nov. 8,9

Although we can't seem to get rid of summer in Halifax County, at some point fall will settle in and winter will come. Those wintry nights and snowy surprises will make you want to snuggle up with a special person or your trusted dog or cat and stay warm. At that point, Halifax County Little Theatre will have an option for those winter nights: coming to a romantic comedy where the love and laughter will heat you up.

Director Martin Beekman will hold auditions for "Almost, Maine" next Monday and Tuesday nights at 7:00 pm in the Prizery banquet hall. Martin will be remembered most recently as the governor in "Lying in State" and the father in "Escanaba in Da Moonlight." As a former professor of theatre at the University of Virginia, Martin has plenty of experience in directing and acting, and Little Theatre is pleased to add Martin to their directors' list.
