SOUTH BOSTON, VA – Get ready for a season packed with laughter, classic tales, and fresh talent as Halifax County Little Theatre (HCLT) proudly unveils its exciting 2025-26 lineup, celebrating an incredible 70 years of bringing exceptional live theatre to our community. Leading the helm this dynamic season will be a mix of new and seasoned directors.

Kicking off the anniversary celebration with a bang (and a few comical crashes!) is Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, and Henry Shields’s “The Play That Goes Wrong,” co-directed by first-time directors Mario Sadler and Will Hamilton. Prepare for an evening of pure theatrical pandemonium as this hilarious play-within-a-play showcases an amateur drama society’s disastrous opening night of a murder mystery. Everything that can go wrong does, promising an uproarious experience for audiences. “The Play That Goes Wrong” runs October 3-12, 2025.

HCLT brings a beloved classic to life this winter with “A Year with Frog and Toad,” directed by the experienced Sandy Slayton. This charming musical adaptation of Arnold Lobel’s popular children’s books follows the whimsical adventures of two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog, and the rather grumpy Toad – through four fun-filled seasons. Featuring a cast of 20, including adults, teens, and children, this heartwarming production will delight audiences of all ages from February 20 to March 1, 2026.

Prepare for another raucous good time as first-time director Jessica Camp takes the stage with “Keep on Laughing.” This comedy by Paul Elliott is a rollicking sequel to “Exit Laughing,” continuing the story of three close friends, Connie, Leona, and Millie, who are now back from their world travels, full of adventurous tales and a newfound sense of sass. This limited engagement runs April 23-26, 2026.

“We are absolutely thrilled to present our 70th Anniversary season!” says HCLT President Lori Ashwell. “It’s incredibly exciting that two of our productions showcase new directorial talent while our children’s show brings back a much-loved director. We will celebrate our rich history with a season that embodies the spirit of HCLT.”

Beyond the mainstage productions, HCLT is adding even more to the season! On Saturday, March 14, 2026, HCLT will host a free two-hour improv class led by Mettlesome, a zany improv troupe from Durham, North Carolina. That night, you can catch Mettlesome in action as they perform their hilarious improv show. Looking ahead to summer 2026, HCLT will also present a fun-filled and educational summer camp for ages 5-14, fostering the next generation of local talent.
